Positive reinforcement training ?
I just read in the answers blog about a pet owner who decided to use positive reinforcement training. Its been a while since I trained a dog so I was just wondering how does this work if the dog is say chewing on the legs of your very expensive table, Do you just sit there and ignore it cause I really can’t see myself being able to do that.
Part of positive reinforcement is diversion – if your dog starts to chew on something he shouldn’t, you divert him to chew on something he should be chewing on, then reward.
This is what I have found – positive reinforcement works great when *teaching* a new skill or behaviour. But it doesn’t work, for me, when proofing that skill. In my opinion, dogs learn really well once they realize there are consequences for behaviour – both good and bad.
