Remote Control Dog Training Collar

How can I get my dog to stop barking?

If I have him tied up outside, he barks. If I’m on the phone when I get home from work, he barks. If I have people over and I’m not paying attention to him, he barks. If I don’t throw his ball, he barks.

I bought a bark collar with remote so I can control when he gets vibrated or shocked that works great when it’s on, but I’ve had it for a month and thought he would be trained by now, but I thought wrong.

What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

It sounds like you are trying to put a bandaid on the problem, rather than working on identifyling the cause, and curing the issue.
The first step you need to take is to identify why your dog is barking.
Is he bored? Anxious? Lonely? Protective? etc.
You may need the help of a professional trainer to help you to identify the cause.
You treat the problem depending on how it is caused.
In the case of boredom- walking your dog regularly can make alot of difference. Walking him once or twice a day, teaching him obedience, giving him toys to play with, or getting him another doggie friend are all great ways of curing doggie boredom.

If your dog is anxious and is barking because he doesnt like to be away from you then it is a more serious issue, you will need the help of a trainer to help your dog gain more confidence, and to help him learn what behaviours are appropriate. If he is barking due to seperation anxiety no amount of punishment is going to help him- it is more likely going to make him more anxious, and the problem will get worse rather than better.

If your dog is protecting the property then he may need more social skills so that he does not feel he needs to protect the property from every thing that comes along. But this can depend on the breed, too- some dogs are just born to bark and alert strangers.

You really need some help to find out what the problem is before you try to treat it- but I hope you can help your dog soon. Good luck!
